Marc Alter is a songwriter and musician who performs in and around New York City and lives in the East Village. His songs are reminiscent of folk & rock of the 60's and 70's with a present day edge. Described as dark poetry set to music, Marc's music focuses on social & political issues, the macabre, the romantic & the bizarre. It is injected with satire, sarcasm & dark humor, while earnest & authentic.
Marc is a self-taught guitarist and singer/songwriter. Born and raised in Long Island, New York, Marc took to music early on. He played several instruments growing up in Smithtown, NY and was often self-taught. In school he was always involved in music. Throughout childhood, Marc developed an appreciation for the beauty of the natural world as well as the cosmos. He read and watched science fiction as well as science fact, and grew intrigued with astronomy and the human mind. This is reflected in the many of the songs he wrote in his adolescence. His interest in psychology, and pathology also brought him to working in the carreer of Social Work while these themes also inspired his song writing themes.
